Tetrathecas belong to a genus of small shrubs with bright pink - purple flowers, growing mainly in heathland.

Tetratheca ericifolia grows only 20 - 50 cm tall, branching out several times close to the ground.

The rather blunt-looking leaves are 5 - 10 mm long, only about 1 mm wide, with small stiff hairs near the leaf margins. They grow in whorls of 6.
