Field of Mars - this Saturday take a walk on the shale side
The RYDE HUNTER’S HILL FLORA AND FAUNA PRESERVATION SOCIETY
When: this Saturday 6 April at 2.30pm. A walk will start at the Visitors Centre to the higher areas of the reserve along the Cressy Rd area.
This area originally formed part of the shale forest which roughly marked the local area boundary of the old Field of Mars Common established by Governor King. Adjoining the Common were land grant areas which were cleared and developed on the richer shale soils. Society members have done some preliminary research into these landholders and the landuse of the area and this will be discussed during the walk
Afterwards, at around 5pm a BBQ will be held at the Visitors Centre where there will be more information available about the shale vegetation corridors of Ryde. This is especially relevant to proposed development of land adjoining shale forest at North Ryde - there will also be information available about this Rezoning which is currently on exhibition.
If too wet the walk may not go ahead and we will have a longer BBQ/talk time.
Looking forward to seeing some of you there and sorry for the late notice.
